Hollywood and Celebrity Weed

1978 – How Cheech & Chong’s Up in Smoke changed everything for potheads

When I first launched WeedLoving, one thing that totally surprised me was the amount of hate mail I received because I used terms like stoners… even simply mentioning the words marijuana, weed or pot…

People also didn’t like the images I use on the site, telling me that I was doing more harm than good.. they actually took the time to email me about it.

The ‘new pot industry’ wants us to use the word ‘cannabis’ exclusively, they want to portray an industry that is made up of sophisticated consumers, leaving all of the old stigmas and stereotypes behind us.

I got an earful from one lady who’s now a professional in the cannabis industry, telling me that WeedLoving was a disgrace a couple of months ago.

I asked her if she had ordered anything from the OCS. Not yet. I asked her when was the last time she smoked weed. She told me 15 years ago when she was a teenager.

F*ck you! Sadly this is norm in the new pot economy, one winner of the retail cannabis licence in Ontario said he had no idea about what weed was all about. A bunch of ‘experts’ and quick to criticize, ever quicker to sell you a $100 marijuana pipe or $200 weed box.

People want to forget about Cheech and Chong or Harold and Kumar, how quickly they ignore the movies that had a positive impact on the legalization of marijuana from the dark prohibition days of Reefer Madness.

Let’s take a look back at Up In Smoke, the pioneer of modern stoner comedies, and the impact it had on the future of movies and the legalization movement.

Don’t take things too seriously, let’s all have some fun. Marijuana is already legal folks, never forget how we got here.
