Overwhelmed? How to pick the best weed from your retail pot shop!

I have a dirty little secret to confess to you… You might not be totally surprised, but I’ll come clean and tell you that I’ve smoked weed before it was legal to do so last October as most people have here in Canada. So when midnight struck last October 17th and I went online to order cannabis legally for the first time, I thought it would be a breeze for this old-timer and pot veteran.

I went to the Ontario Cannabis Store to see what they had and I was completely overwhelmed when it featured dozens of strains to choose from (before they started selling out). I had no idea what to buy other than using the search tool to select sort by highest THC percentages, and that’s a horrible way of finding good legal pot. I ended up ordering four different types to get a variety and only one of them was actually any good.

The problem with ordering online is that you can’t see it or smell it, so when I went to the retail opening of Hunny Pot here in Toronto my budtender gave me the tour. With dozens of pot strains on display, they all looked the same to me and I thought to myself how would the average person know what type of weed to buy?

Through the WeedLoving Facebook page, one person kept mentioning that he loved Pink Kush from San Rafael. I wanted to get the full budtender experience, but I told her that I wanted to get Pink Kush based on the experience of someone else. It didn’t disappoint…

Bottom Line. For a person that runs a pretty big website dedicated to marijuana and with pretty extensive experience with smoking weed over the years, I really have no idea of what I’m doing and what’s good in terms of legal pot to buy. Guess I’ll have to try them all..
