Legal Marijuana in Canada
Last day to enter lottery for a retail cannabis licence in Ontario and EVERYONE wants one….
I’ve never really seen anything like it.
Running a site like WeedLoving means I get to talk to many people out there that are curious about marijuana. My inbox has been pretty full, as I’ve received over a dozen emails from people (strangers) over the last week asking advice about how to enter the retail lottery which ends today. EVERYONE wants to run their own pot shop!
My advice – Unless you are 100% sure — Don’t even try at this point until the market matures because you are taking a huge risk at this point without all the rules being set in stone.
There are horror stories emerging about people already committed to expensive leases in prime locations before the government announced the lottery system with only 25 retail locations for all Ontario come April 1st.
Koby Smutylo’s carefully-laid plans to open nine cannabis shops in Ottawa and other Ontario cities this spring blew up in his face when the provincial government abruptly changed the rules. Now Smutylo’s company may be able to open a single store somewhere in the province this April, If he’s lucky. Very lucky.

Smutylo’s company has entered the lottery being held this week to chose 25 entrepreneurs who will be allowed to apply for a licence to operate the province’s first bricks-and-mortar cannabis shops. The lottery is the latest change of course on the rollercoaster ride that is the legalization of recreational pot in Ontario.
