Myself I like all kinds of stuff mostly classic rock though
Or maybe this
As a former music programmer, I have a vast collection of music, dating from 1954 until around 2010. My favorite era would have to be my teen years. I find myself listening to something from my Zeppelin collection (after seeing them live for the first time, I was sold!), to Black Sabbath (1970 - 1975). When smoking, I find myself enjoying Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. I attended around 105 concerts in my time until I couldn't take "fans" videotaping everything instead of just having a great time. Rock was never intended to be anything other than a party.
A rock concert is suppose to be a party but sometimes fans and even bands forget that Some bands are very pricey many are not but the fans and there damn cameras/ phones I will never get that I just want to see a great band play songs and have a great time doing exactly that No phone No texting Nothing just enjoy the music and atmosphere
I have only experienced a few bands in my life so far, but honestly, to your point, I'm not sure how many more I really want to see. My first one: Roger Water's The Wall with some very much so needed live puppet action, it really brought the movie, album, and concert all into one. We actually forgot our weed that night but who even cared! It was my first concert and it was an epic! My last one, on the other hand, went fairly badly. (Die Antwoord concert). I didn't realize that I would end up in a mosh pit and really hurt my back. Security guards ended up lifting me over the front row in order to get out of the pit itself. The group Die Antwoord was fantastic and it seemed like the remixed all of their songs, which made to a really awesome and trippy night. But the tickets were too damn much and don't get me started on merch prices! All in all, I'm not going to another concert unless its A) Roger Waters, again, or B) a tiny little folk thing out on the lawn were no one gets hurt!
I love concerts I went to many of them in my younger days but stupid crazy ticket prices and age have mellowed out any ideas of going to any again Believe it or not probably my favorite was the Ramones in a small hotel You were like maybe a few feet from the band and they played there hearts out I've seen the who Ramones ac/dc Metallica. April wine Santana, FM. Triumph, Had tickets to Led Zeppelin in Montreal but that concert got cancelled because of the death of Bonham So that sucked and I was stupid enough to sell Pink Floyd tickets in NYC 1st row. 🙁 At least I sold them to a friend and he tormented me for years about how awesome the concert was
Holy cow!! You saw some pretty legit people. Missing a few shows or not! I feel like we will never get back to the day where there are tiny hotel concerts, the population is just too big, everyone gets loads of fans. This also is just because the internet gives small growing bands lots of room to advertise and sell tickets. To your prices point, they are way too much nowadays! But that's where they get their money, it's just unfortunate how much money they want!
Well The fact of todays world is greed, I guess. Take what you can get, raises prices a little more and lower wages just a tad. It's all about profit in the music industry. It always has been. But at the prices they charge for some concerts it becomes very easy for me too say NO. I loved growing up in the 70,s So many bars that had live acts If you were lucky you could see some big names in tiny bars and hotels in Toronto Kitchener, Cambridge even some of the smaller towns around them too Made the music more personal that way and I loved it
I prefer smaller shows too! When they are in great big rooms where you can't even see who you are paying to see, then it is definitely not worth it. That's why I started getting more into more small local bands; there is a lot more punk in the world if you look in small corners! It's not dead at all, just hiding.
To answer the title: I really enjoy all kinds of music! I really enjoy listening to more than one genre at a time, like rock, punk, psychedelic, and then modern stuff like RnB, rap, and lo-fi. It's like having the weirdest custom radio station money can buy.
I have No idea why I'm so into Boston lately especially the first 2 albums but this is the whole album if you have never heard it before. Boston 1 If you have a very decent stereo or computer audio give this album a crank
You're preaching to the choir! That's the exact reason I finally stopped going to concerts. As a former guitar player, I fell in love with the music. There came a point where I thought my wife and I were in the minority attending concerts who weren't trying to direct the show.
As for getting into Boston, you must be channeling my younger days. In the fall of '76, there wasn't a party that I attended that wasn't playing both sides of that first Boston album. Being in a garage band, we were all in awe of Brad Delp's voice. They were THE band of '76.
Boston by Boston on the album called Boston ... man, were times more simple! I must have heard this song a hundred times before knowing that this was the name of it! Such a beautiful classic!! His voice is pure magic, I wish there were more bands like this. I know of one today that is pulling some of that Roger Waters - Brad Delp magic out of the 70s! Called Greta Van Fleet, definitely give these kids a listen! They came on on SNL and I turned to see 17-year-old boys that must have found a time machine! Because damn did they find that crossroads devil magic.
One reason why I feel like an old soul is that music can be a hobby for me. I've spent hours laying on my bed, listening to music. Scrolling Spotify to find new songs and artists, and then just absorbing them. Thank you so much for opening me up to Boston, it feels like my soul is being touched by an angel. I forgot how much I love listening to 70s music, which seems crazy because I have an entire record cabinet full of them.
