Albert Einstein is known as the smartest man who ever lived. Before developing his groundbreaking theories that changed physics and science, Einstein worked as a clerk at the Swiss patent office. During this time, Einstein produced some of the most creative work of his life, including the four scientific articles that led to his success. In his most famous article, “On the Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies”, Einstein challenged the apparent contradiction between two principal theories of physics with his theory of relativity. Another paper focused on the fundamental relationship between mass and energy, expressed in his famous equation E=mc2. By 1909, after publishing all four articles, Einstein left the patent office for a position at the University of Zurich. After a few years, he moved to become the director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Physics at the University of Berlin in 1913, where he published the general theory of relativity, which he considered his masterwork. This theory was the first major theory of gravity since Newton’s, which was groundbreaking for both Einstein and the world. This started his rise to success, as he began touring the world, eventually moving to the United States to further his career and quest for a unified field theory.

During this time that Einstein was making groundbreaking discoveries in science, he also spoke about the government and prohibition laws, “The prestige of government has undoubtedly been lowered considerably by the prohibition law. For nothing is more destructive of respect for the government and the law of the land than passing laws which cannot be enforced.” Einstein believed that the government shouldn’t be involved in personal decisions like smoking, because Einstein himself enjoyed smoking from a pipe. Einstein believed in a higher sense of being, “No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it,” so it’s possible he was smoking marijuana in his pipe.
